Monday, 4 July, 2011

…the album starts out with “Gonna Get Wild” with singer ZANE LAZAR who’s voice is as beautiful as ever while the rhythm is very powerful. In short every aspect of their sound is an asset. If you loved their first album you will adore this one!!
If you aren’t acquainted with them, buy it and you won’t be sorry, believe me!

St. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) “Powerdrive” CD review in Overdose Magazine (France)

Monday, 4 July, 2011

Is St. Elmo’s Fire Nothing more than a imitation of the Scorpions?
Assure yourself ladies and gentlemen that the music is not the same. Jeff Jones who wrote all the pieces offers a hard rock  foundation over simple riffs, an effective rhythm, melodic songs and choruses all in a perspectine of the scorpions.
There is a predominance of medium tempos ( “Gonna Get Wild”, “Iso;ation”, “Smoking Gun” ) yet you find a beautiful ballad “I need Your Touch” and two songs that are faster “Powerdrive” and “Street Lethal”
In my opinion the gem of the album is “City Behind the Walls” a choice seven minute piece providing a solid main riff, a particularly good chorus and a calm heavenly passage.

ST. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) “Powerdrive” CD review in Sunlight (France)

Monday, 4 July, 2011

…this group works within melodic heavy metal and gives a goos account of itself and is beautiful enough without being revolutionary. Very good songs and good performances are the backbone of this album. Within St. Elmo’s Fire there is JEFF JONES and ZANE LAZAR,the guitarist and singer respectively who are very interesting and the highlight of the band.. The founder JEFF JONES is undeniably of the Varney school of playing and although he can be excessive he a;so gives evidence of sparseness when necessary. ZANE LAZAR’s vocals is situated between K;ause Meine of the Scorpions and Ronnie James Dio. This and great production give us in total a good album.!

St. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) -”St. Elmo’s Fire” album review in Enfer Magazine (France)

Monday, 4 July, 2011

Just another four blondes from California? Not sure, in fact what is for sure is that one has plenty to feast on. St. Elmo’s Fire has the merit to escape the Motley Crue syndrome with more intelligence than their Hollywood collegues. This is mainly due to the composer/guitarist Jeff Jones. The harmonic scales move from the frenzied “Into the Night” , the Amazing “Too Bad”, and other songs such as “Inside of the Hunter”. The band displays an air of spontaneity far from the petrified qualities of most commercial music. Finally singer Zane Lazar needs to ne mentioned. His voice defines the music of St. Elmo’s Fire as “Whisky Metal”! Furthermore I would add /on the rocks” ,the finest blend, Drink up!

ST. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) “St. Elmo’s Fire” LP review in Crash Magazine (Germany)

Monday, 4 July, 2011

Get into the car, put the cd into the player, shift into gear, take off the brake, step on the gas and you’re off like a shot- this is what happens when St. Elmo’s Fire comes though the speakers!
In the traditional three piece band formation (guitar, bass and drums) plus singer, ZANE LAZAR (vocals), SIMON EVANS (bass)take a  hard rock background, good and is performed with lots of variety…

St. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) “St. Elmo’s Fire” CD review in Metal Rendezvous Magazine

Monday, 4 July, 2011

Another band from L.A. I presume?. In any case St. Elmos Fire sends us one of the most promising first albums that a band can have. Good compositions, good singer and a very good guitarist.
Simply all it takes for a happening group. In addition the album is gifted with a good sound, nice and heavy, just how we like it!
JEFF JONES launches into killer solos not filled with hammer-ons but is is the voice of singer ZANE LAZAR who reminds me of a young Klaus Meine, even more so on the ballad “More Than the Air”. The more I listen to this record the more I tell myself it is a good one. Do not pass it up!

St. Elmo’s Fire (Jeff Jones) “St Elmo’s Fire” LP Review in Telemoustique (Belgium)

Monday, 4 July, 2011

There’s no telling but the air in California must be richer in oxygen than ours because where else would bands like St. Elmos Fire come from!
St. Elmo’s Fire nourishes its chords with these minerals. Although the drummer KRIS GUSTOFSON comes from thrash-band Trauma, ST. ELMO’S FIRE falls into the melodic music of “Cities” “Hellion” with a pinch of “Deep Purple”  thrown in.

St. Elmo’s Fire ( Jeff Jones)- “St. Elmo’s Fire” Rockhard Magazine (Germany) album review

Monday, 4 July, 2011

The debut album from a band that has been around since 1980. In the band we find drummer KRIS GUSTOFSON who previously played with CLIFF BURTON in Trauma ( Scratch and Scream).
In the intro St. Elmo’s Fire sets the tone; Turbo train type guitars reminiscent of the Scorpions since the singer has a Klause Meine tone in his voice. Most especially on songs such as “Into the Night”, More Than the Air” and “Into the Night”.
JEFF JONES the main songwriter and guitar player of the group is far from monotonous on the 6 string. The songs are catchy and well worked out.The group for its first effort shows great maturity. No drawback in this bunch! This results in a full cup without the waste of a single drop!
